BBQ and Sweet Potato Pie Too

LAKE TAHOE, CA—Sticky, sweet, Texas BBQ goodness is all I have to say about Womack’s Texas Style BBQ. The Womack’s grew up in the East Texas town of Gary. They must have felt slot gacor at home with all the pine trees around here, and I’m glad they did. Until last night with the exception of the awesome pastrami and Swiss sandwich I had at PS The Brewery just up the street, a good meal had been hard to find.

Womack’s is not 5-star when it comes to service, but they really took care of us. A laid back mix of snow boarder-dude and East Texas gent, our server as well as son of the owner, Anthony made us feel right at home.

For the meal, I enjoyed sweet barbecue baby back ribs, HOT links, the best black-eyed peas I have had in my life and a nice Sierra Nevada to top it off. After dinner, I introduced Dan to Womack’s hot-spiced wine, a yummy mixture of burgundy and merlot blended with cinnamon and citrus. I love mulled wine or as they call it in the Alps, Glühwein (gluvine). It was perfect compliment as the first big chill had blown through Tahoe.

Chip and a Stare

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ–There aren’t many innovators out there anymore. You can only slice bread once, you know?

That said, our friends here at the Borgata came up with an ingenious idea. Or, rather, they stole an ingenious idea. Either way, good for them for turning a boxing mainstay (the always engaging “Round Card Girl”) into what, we hope, will become a fixture at poker tournaments around the country: The Level Card Girls. With each increase in level here at the Borgata, the “Borgata Babes” as they’re known in-house, walk around the tournament floor holding cards indicating (yup, you guessed it) what level we’re currently on. Genius!

And Dan says I haven’t offered any “real” content yet. Take that.

My Threesome with Jamie Gold and Lou Krieger

OK. So Dan has let the feral cat out of the bag.

Indeed I did interview Jamie Gold along with my Hold’em Radio co-host Lou Krieger. And like Poker Shrink eluded to – this interview was postponed several times. And as Dan eluded to – the condition was that we could not bring up the restraining order, freezing half of Jamie’s $12 million first place casharoo.

If you listen to the interview, you might find my questions and comments almost sploogey with softballs and compliments. I was testing just how far the Gold ego could go. But I have to say he was more restrained about his accomplishment in our interview than some of the earlier interviews I heard. I think our little Jamie is growing up. He also talked about setting up a charitable foundation – again a score for Gold.

My personal low point: When I tell him that “I’m hot – but not a Mom” when he asks about casting me on his new reality show “Hot Moms.”

Jamie’s low point: When he confesses to a situation that reeks of collusion.

But overall, I was more impressed with Gold in this interview and his enthusiam relative to being a positive spokesperson for poker. Maybe I started with low expectations. But either way, may it last…
